Blackjack Terms and Sayings

Ace - The Ace card in Blackjack can be worth either one or eleven.

Blackjack - This is both the game itself and also the best hand you can get dealt, which contains an Ace with any ten valued card.

Bust - This is when a Players or Dealers hand has a total combined value of over twenty one.

Chips - These are the Clay tokens used to play Blackjack with, they come in different values and can be purchased for cash at the Blackjack table, to redeem them for cash simply take them to the casinos’ cashiers cage or window.

Comps - This is a loyalty type programme offered by a casino in which you earn freebies simply for playing any casino game for cash/real money.

Deal - This is the Blackjack term given to players being given a hand of cards by the Dealer.

Dealer - This is the person who not only deals out the playing cards but also pays all winning bets out and removes losing wagers from the Blackjack table.

Double Down - This is a Blackjack wagering option that when taken requires you to double your initial wager to receive one additional card to your hand.

Hit - This is a Blackjack move, and when you Hit your hand you are given an additional free card.

Insurance - This is an optional bet offered by the casino when the Dealer has a chance of getting a Blackjack, you are paid out, usually at odds of 2 to 1 if the wager is successful.

Jack - This is one of the three picture cards in play in a game of Blackjack, it has a value of ten.

King - This is another of the three different picture cards in play in a game of Blackjack it has a value of ten.

Push - This is when both the Dealers hand and a Players hand have the same total value, in which case that game ends in a tie for that player and he gets to keep his stake.

Queen - This is one of the three picture cards in play in the game of Blackjack it has a value of ten.

Stand - This is a decision made by the players in a game of Blackjack and when he Stands he will be dealt no further cards as he is happy with the hand he has been dealt.

Split - This is another betting move made by a Player and he or she is allowed to make two new hands once dealt two matching cards, the new hand formed requires a wager equal too his initial wager.
